Thee Argentine international could start his first match in nearly a month on Boxing Day when Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford.
The former Real Madrid winger returned to action as a second-half substitute in United’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday following a three week lay-off with a hamstring injury.
Di Maria missed United’s previous three matches after suffering a small tear to his hamstring in the 3-0 victory over Hull on November 29.
But having played the final half-an-hour at Villa Park, Di Maria may be handed the chance to start from the off against the Magpies by manager Louis van Gaal.
