Premier League club Arsenal FC are anxiously awaiting news on defender Kieran Gibbs who limped out of the 0-0 draw between England U21s and Lithuania.
The full-back lasted just 21 minutes before being replaced by Ryan Bertrand.
The England camp confirmed that Gibbs was sent for an X-ray, while Arsenal issued a brief statement saying the club would update on the player later in the week.
Manager Stuart Pearce said that the defender went in for a block challenge with one of the opposing players. Pearce also added that Gibbs has been sent for an X-ray and that it is just precautionary at the moment.
However, a report in one of Wednesday’s newspapers suggests the defender has suffered a broken metatarsal which could sideline him for some time.
If the injury is confirmed, it will come as a bitter blow for Arsenal as Gibbs was only recently drafted in to the side as cover for the injured Gael Clichy.
It has been a disappointing international week for Gunners chief Arsene Wenger who saw Robin van Persie suffer ankle ligament damage playing for the Netherlands.
