Thomas Vermaelen has said that he believes Arsenal’s 6-2 thrashing of Blackburn has sent out a “big message” to their Premier League rivals.
The Gunners are now the leading scorers in the division and moved back into the top four following a brilliant attacking display at Emirates Stadium.
However, goal-scoring centre-back Vermaelen, who took his tally for the season to five yesterday feels that Arsenal must tighten up defensively at the back.
He told reporters after that match that winning a match 6-2 is a big message and now it is up to the team to continue winning.
The defender added that in the end it was a great result, but looking back at the match, Arsenal did not look too good in the first half.
He added that the first half was disappointing for the team as a defence because the team gave away too many chances and Blackburn scored two goals.
Vermaelen added that defence is something which Arsenal must improve and there are things that the team can work on.
