Reports are out claiming that Newcastle United face a challenge in their attempts to sign Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven.
Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley is in Holland conducting negotiations with PSV representatives but it has emerged that Everton have joined the race for the skipper of the Eindhoven club.
New Toon manager Steve McClaren is keen to make the Dutch international his first signing since taking over at St James’ Park and will not welcome the news that Everton have joined the race for the 24-year old’s signature.
Wijnaldum is set to cost in the region of £15million and command wages of around £60,000 a week with both Newcastle and Everton ready to fork out for his services.
The talented midfielder is also being monitored by Premier League giants Arsenal.
