It has been reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has responded to rumours of a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of midfielders in recent weeks and reports suggest the Germany international is high on Wenger’s wish list.
Club captain Mikel Arteta has been ruled out for the next three months following ankle surgery but Wenger insists he is focusing on defensive reinforcements.
He said: “He’s not a defender. At the moment we are more looking for the defensive department.”
