It has been revealed that English club Arsenal FC have slapped a £40million price-tag on playmaker Cesc Fabregas as they prepare themselves for a bid from Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona.

An official from the club said that nobody at Arsenal wants to see Fabregas go but there will come a point when the money is too good to turn down. He also said that if Arsenal were receive a bid in the region of £40m then there will be an enormous pressure to sell.

Emirates boss Arsene Wenger is desperate for funds to strengthen his squad in order to mount a credible title challenge and if they lose midfielder Fabregas, 22, would seem like a hammer blow but the Gunners went on a 20-game unbeaten run in the league when he was injured last season.

Real and Barcelona are in the hunt for the Spaniard and appear certain to bid for him with Barca president Joan Laporta clearly stating his intention to make an offer last week.

Laporta publicly invited the Arsenal skipper to declare his desire to return to his boyhood club by saying that “Cesc has Barcelona in his DNA and I think that one day he should play for Barca.”

It remains to be seen whether Fabregas will commit his future to the London Club of leave to his home country.
