Aston Villa triumphed 4-3 on penalties over Juventus to win the 2009 Peace Cup after a goalless draw in Seville.
After 120 goalless minutes at Estadio Olimpico, keeper Brad Guzan denied both Vincenzo Iaquinta and Alessandro Del Piero in the shootout to ensure that Villa won an action-packed encounter that saw both sides go close.
Andreas Weimann was offered the chance to impress as he stepped into Villa’s starting line-up in place of the suspended Emile Heskey, but another youngster led the way in the shape of Marc Albrighton. The midfielder, praised by Heskey for his form in the competition, lit up the first half for Martin O’Neill’s men.
