Liverpool’s vain hopes of finishing the season in the top four of the Premier League took another blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City at St Andrews.
Steven Gerrard put the Reds ahead early in the second half after a frustrating opening period, only for Liam Ridgewell to equalise 10 minutes later.
Liverpool are now sixth in the table, four points behind Manchester City having played a game more, and time is running out on their bid to secure Champions League football for next season.
Birmingham remain in ninth position, as they would have done whatever the result of this match, after they extended their unbeaten league run against the Anfield side to eight matches.
