It has been reported that Brendan Rodgers has highlighted the importance of Liverpool holding aloft the FA Cup this season.
The Reds are now only two wins away from a precious piece of silverware after edging Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in the quarter-final replay on Wednesday night which has set up a Wembley semi-final meeting with Aston Villa on April 19.
After falling seven points out of the Premier League’s top four, Rodgers says it was vital for Liverpool to step up in the cup and is now eager to stand on the dais at English football’s headquarters on May 30.
“It was something we always learn from and we will improve from,” said Rodgers after consecutive losses in the league.
“It wasn’t about saving our season. We want to compete at the top end of the league and challenge for trophies.
“We wanted to win a trophy this year – that has been clear. We just needed to stay calm in the game and focus back on our performance because the two performances against Arsenal and Manchester United weren’t up to the standard we had set for three months.”
