Calum Chambers Determined To Grab Arsenal Opportunity

Reports are out claiming that Calum Chambers was happy to be given another starting chance for Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old made his second start of the season and just his third appearance overall in the 2-1 Capital One Cup win over North London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Chambers is aware his opportunities are currently at a premium as he sits behind the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista and even Hector Bellerin in the Gunners defensive pecking order and is simply concentrating on producing positive performances whenever Arsene Wenger throws him into the fray.

“It’s not always easy when you don’t play for a while and then come back in and play, but you’ve got to deal with it,” said Chambers who unfortunately scored an own-goal in his side’s victory.

“When you get the opportunity to come back in you’ve got to prove yourself and give a good performance to show why you’re in the starting XI.

“That’s what I try to do every time that I get an opportunity.”

Chambers also felt it was a fairly solid team display from the Gunners who had Mathieu Flamini to thank for a rare match-winning brace.

“We kept compact, we fought well and we were resilient so it was a good team performance,” he added.
