Athletico Madrid last night opened the way for Chelsea to sign Sergio Aguero for a massive £42million.
It is reported that the Spanish club are ready to listen to offers for their star player, now age 21, and it is said that Chelsea will lead the chase if their transfer ban is lifted on appeal.
Atletico director Miguel Angel Gil Marin confirmed that Chelsea had offered £42m for Aguero and Real Madrid made a bid of £33m for Diego Forlan.
Chelsea were hit with a FIFA transfer ban for inducing starlet Gael Kakuta from Lens but their appeal is set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport before Christmas.
If boss Carlo Ancelotti is allowed to buy in January, Chelsea are certain to continue their Aguero interest.
Atletico have made an appalling start to this season and Gil Marin incredibly put it down to the club’s decision to keep hold of Aguero and Forlan.
Aguero is not able to play for another club in the Champions League this term. He was in the side that lost 4-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week.
