Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton has declared that he would like to stay long-term.
Newcastle United insist the matter is a formality, set to be discussed in the New Year. Yet many Toon fans would prefer Hughton’s future to be secured, and the man himself is keen to stay at St James’ Park.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the period of time I’ve been at the club,” Hughton told the Sunday Sun.
“Would I like to stay at this club? Absolutely yes.
“I’ve fallen for the region and the club. I thoroughly enjoy living up here and the area. It is a magnificent club with a support that will let you know their feelings because they are a passionate support. I can see what this club means to the supporters and of course I would love to be involved.
“I would love to be at this football club next season.
“How good a job have I done? I don’t know, other people have to say that.
“I’m just delighted to be manager of this football club and in a position to do this. I have one eye on the future. You have to.
“The aim is to be in this division next season. What you have to do, irrespective of where you end up, is make plans. There are always opportunities to bring players in.
“Do I see myself as the main man in the middle of all that? I hope so, I hope so, yes.”
