Everton’s Roberto Martinez Defends Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger

Reports are out claiming that Everton manager Roberto Martinez has stated that people who criticise Arsene Wenger lack an understanding of his achievements at Arsenal.

Following consecutive eliminations from the FA Cup as well as the Champions League, Arsenal now only have the Premier League to contest but with the Gunners 11 points adrift of leaders Leicester City at the moment, a title win looks unlikely once again.

As a result, many have called for manager Wenger to step down at the end of the season but Toffees counterpart Martinez has launched a staunch defence of the Arsenal boss and has stated that the fans who chastise the Frenchman do not understand what he has done for the club over the years.

Speaking ahead of Everton’s clash against Arsenal this weekend, Martinez said: “It is a lack of understanding for what he has done.

“People are giving an opinion and they haven’t really seen what he has done. The shock he brought when he arrived at the club.

“He understood the British game more than anyone, added a bit of flair and created this special dressing room that could adapt into the British game with a continental attitude. Then he created the Invincibles.

“Then he was managing the funds and the finances with the stadium. It is constant innovation. I just think that he shouldn’t be assessed like any other manager.”
