It has been revealed that Dwight Yorke was full of praise for Anthony Martial following Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
The 19-year-old French international forward scored on debut for the Red Devils following his £36million move from AS Monaco on deadline day and his performance prompted words of praise from former Old Trafford striker Yorke.
“I’ve been able to play at lesser clubs like Villa and those things. They were amazing times, but when you go to United for big money, the start is important,” he said on Ed Chamberlain’s podcast for Sky Sports.
“When he came on you could tell he was a little bit raw and rough around the edges.
“He didn’t give two monkeys in terms of what you’re supposed to do and just got the ball and it seems to be a natural thing just to attack the defenders, something we haven’t seen for maybe 18 months at United. We’ve been crying out for something like that.
“Being an attacking player myself I love to see him attack at players and commit defenders. People say he got a little bit fortunate, but at the same time fair play to the lad. He kept his composure.
“He’s a big-money signing and a young lad. You’d think he would probably snatch at it but he slotted it in extremely well. I am delighted for him.”
