Bad news for all Liverpool fans as striker Fernando Torres has been declared not fit to play against French club Lyon.
The Spain international striker has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Anfield with a groin injury.
However there is also good news as Reds skipper Steven Gerrard has shrugged off a similar problem and is set to play after coming through training on Monday.
Both men missed the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland which saw Liverpool slip to eighth in the Premier League. Torres did not train on Monday but could be fit for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez told reporters that Gerrard is back as he has trained normally and will play against Lyon but he can’t say the same for Fernando Torres as he is not close enough to fitness to be considered.
Benitez confirmed that Torres will miss the Lyon game but hopes that he will be ready to play against current champions Manchester United.
