Germany Beat Uruguay For Third Spot

Paul the Octopus did it again. He predicted that Germany would take third spot by defeating Uruguay and that is exactly what happened.

VfB Stuttgart midfielder Sami Khedira headed home the winner as Germany came from behind to claim third place at the World Cup with a 3-2 win over Uruguay in Port Elizabeth.

Khedira who took the place of injured captain Michael Ballack, headed into the corner of the net on 82 minutes after a frantic scramble in the Uruguay box to give Germany the crucial lead.

20 year old Thomas Muller struck the opener for Joachim Loew’s side on 19 minutes only for Palermo striker Edinson Cavani to level on 28 minutes.

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan put Uruguay ahead with a delicious volley on 51 minutes.

Germany secured the bronze medal courtesy of Marcell Jansen’s header five minutes later before Khedira pounced in a crowded area to convert the winner.

Germany are the first side to win the third place play-off game in back to back World Cups.
