Reports are surfacing that the influence of club captain Steven Gerrard persuaded Joe Cole to sign with Liverpool.
Reports suggest that the England midfielder spoke with Gerrard on a number of occasions during the off-season before the former Chelsea man signed with the Reds and it was his England teammate who swayed the decision.
The former West Ham star had also been handed offers by Arsenal and Tottenham but eventually signed a four-year deal with Liverpool with the idea of forming a strong midfield partnership with Gerrard too good to turn down.
Gerrard, along with fellow Kop star Fernando Torres, are still both being linked with an Anfield departure this summer but it is believed that at least Gerrard will remain with the jury still out on striker Torres.
