Goalkeeper William Hesmer Scores For Columbus Crew – Video

Columbus Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer became just the second goalkeeper to score a goal in MLS history on the weekend.

The 28-year old scored Crew’s last-minute equalizer in the 2-2 draw with Toronto FC, putting himself in the record books in the process.

Hesmer fired home from inside the area when the ball fell to him after a goalmouth scramble and he couldn’t believe his luck when speaking about the goal after the match.

“I’ve never gone into the box before, it’s my first time ever,” said Hesmer.

Toronto coach Nick Dasovic and midfielder Scott Peterson were both dumbfounded at what had occurred and were left to rue their side’s bad luck.

“I’ve seen in happen before back in England but I’m speechless,” Dasovic said.

Peterson added: “You don’t see that happen very often. I thought we should have come out of the game with three points.”

Hesmer joins former New York keeper Danny Cepero as the only two shot-stoppers to have gotten on the scoresheet. Cepero scored against the Crew back in 2008.
