Arsene Wenger has revealed Granit Xhaka has been a long-term target of Arsenal’s and is delighted to have completed a deal for the Switzerland midfielder.
The club announced the signing of the 23-year-old on Wednesday for a fee understood to be around £35 million, following weeks of speculation.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder’s arrival will compensate for the departures of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta and Wenger believes Xhaka, a player he has been chasing for some time, will add extra quality to his squad.
He said: ‘Granit Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience.
‘We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad. We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.’
