Carlos Costly struck a hat-trick as Honduras rampaged to a crushing 7-1 win over Grenada on Friday to move close to a place in the last eight of the Gold Cup.
Grenada actually took the lead, stunning their opponents with a 19th minute goal from Clive Murray at a packed FIU Stadium, but that merely served to spark Honduras into life.
The Hondurans led 3-1 at the interval thanks to two goals from Jerry Bengston and one from Costly and they didn’t ease off after the break.
With total breakdown in the Grenadian defence, Costly scored two more and then in the final two minutes Walter Martinez and Alfredo Mejia added insult to injury.
Honduras face Jamaica in their final game in Group B and a draw would be enough to make it into the quarter-final stage.
