Midfielder Joe Cole and Chelsea have undergone talks in regards to a new contract.
The 27-year old England international’s contract expires at the end of the season and following his recent successful return from injury, the Blues are keen to retain him at Stamford Bridge.
New chief executive Ron Gourlay confirmed that the club and Cole were in discussions about a new deal for the England international.
Gourlay told reporters that the club is already in discussions with Joe Cole about the possibility of a new contract.
Gourlay also said that the situation is that Cole is coming to the end of his contract and that he turns 28 on the day of the Manchester United game.
He also revealed that Chelsea is entering into the period where Joe Cole is looking to negotiate his new contract.
Gourlay also admitted that negotiations have started and that the player has made it very clear that he wants to stay with Chelsea.
The Chief Executive said that he is very sure in the coming months that the club will be able to work something out with Joe Cole.
