AC Milan coach Leonardo has revealed that he will stand by goalkeeper Nelson Dida even after the Brazilian gaffed in their Champions League win at Real Madrid in midweek.
Leonardo told reporters that he keeps everything from Dida’s performance, which includes the mistake and also the decisive saves.
Leonardo admitted that it was a shocking error by Dida, but also fuelled by his desire to get back on track.
The manager also said that he is not saying this defend Dida, but said that there are few in the world who know how to react to something like that the way Dida does.
Leonardo went on to say that after such an incident, Dida kept calm and performed a decisive save eventhough he has not trained properly pre-season due to injury.
Leonardo added that Dida has not played in months and was unexpectedly introduced because Marco Storari was out of action.
The Milan manager also said that Dida has the character to react psychologically to the Bernabeu error and has not reached a point of no return.
Leonardo said that the situation is clear and that with Storari and Christian Abbiati injured, he has faith in Dida.
