English giants Liverpool FC have signed French left-back Chris Mavinga from Paris St Germain while forward Nabil El-Zhar has penned a contract extension.
Mavinga now age 18, is also capable playing in the centre of defence and has represented his country at U18 level.
It is strongly believed that Arsene Wenger was very interested in the young defender, but it is Liverpool who stepped up and signed him.
The fee however has not been disclosed and Mavinga has been seen as a bright prospect for French football in the future.
El-Zhar age 22, meanwhile, is the latest Liverpool player to sign a new deal and he has committed himself to the Anfield club until 2012.
The Morocco international joined Liverpool from Saint Etienne in October 2006 and made 19 appearances for the first team last season.
His only goal for the club came in a 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Cardiff in 2007.
