It has been revealed that former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Manchester United’s England captain Wayne Rooney.
Rooney scored in last night’s friendly win over France.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Redknapp wrote: “People have been too quick to write a career obituary for Wayne Rooney. They might be putting their pens away now.
“I think playing alongside Harry Kane has given Rooney a new lease of life.
“He’s thrived in a deeper role as a No 10, which is his best position – and he showed that again at Wembley.
“From the very first minute, when he produced a crisp touch to control the ball, I thought: ‘He could have one of those brilliant nights, here’.
“His goal capped an excellent display and he remains the first player his team-mates look for when they get the ball.
“His aura among the squad has not diminished one bit.
“If it wasn’t for the outstanding Dele Alli, then Rooney would have been man of the match.”
