Goals in the second half from Alvaro Negredo and Yaya Toure secured three points for Manchester City against Hull City at Etihad Stadium.
The visitors started well, with Sone Aluko and Robert Koren missing good chances in the first half, but a below-par City gradually asserted themselves.
Negredo, a half-time substitute for Edin Dzeko, headed home a Pablo Zabaleta cross after 65 minutes.
Toure sealed the win with a free kick just before the end of normal time.
