Reports are out claiming that Manchester City are moving to trump Manchester United for Benfica dynamo Renato Sanches.
The Sunday Times reported that the Portugal international is a long-term target for Manchester United, who failed with a £35million bid earlier this year.
But incoming City boss Pep Guardiola has thrown his hat in the ring as the Spaniard looks to replicate his work with Barcelona and Bayern Munich at the Etihad.
A number of senior players including Yaya Toure have been placed on the transfer list, and Guardiola wants Sanches to be City’s new driving force in the middle of the park.
United and City are both competing for a place in next season’s Champions League, and the winner of that struggle could have the edge in the race for Sanches.
Arsenal are also said to be keen on the talented youngster.
