It has been reported that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal had no problem with Wayne Rooney handing penalty duties to Javier Hernandez in midweek.
Rooney, already having scored a hat-trick, handed the ball to Hernandez for the penalty the Mexican missed at Club Brugge.
Van Gaal said he approved of the gesture, designed to boost Hernandez’s confidence with a goal from the spot — but only because the game was already won, with United 4-0 up.
“I am not surprised, because Wayne is a sociable guy,” he added. “It’s unbelievable. He’s a real captain. We cannot do it at 0-0 but, at 4-0, it was a great gesture.”
