Reports have emerged claiming that Manchester United are eyeing Ilkay Gundogan as a possible long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.
The Daily Mail is of the belief that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal sees 24-year old Borussia Dortmund star Gundogan as the perfect player to step into Carrick’s central midfield role when the veteran ends his career.
33-year old Carrick is certainly in the dusk of his playing days and it has been suggested that van Gaal is seeking a plan for after the former Tottenham man retires.
Nine-time Germany international Gundogan, who is out of contract at Dortmund next summer, has been linked with Arsenal in recent times indicating that United could have some competition for his services.
