Man Utd’s Michael Carrick Battling To Be Fit For Chelsea Clash

It has been reported that Michael Carrick is battling to be fit for Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea.

The Manchester Evening News claims that with United cruising 4-1 up in the derby last Sunday the key midfield anchor man limped off the pitch in the final minutes to protect a calf injury.

The stiff muscle concerned the 33-year-old and despite manager Louis van Gaal having used all his three subs the Dutchman said that his vice captain did the right thing to quit the derby early and not aggravate the calf problem.

City scored their consolation second with Carrick on the bench and the Reds reduced to 10-men.

United will need Carrick’s cool head at Stamford Bridge and getting him fit is a priority.
