It has been reported that Newcastle United are seeking permission for an emergency goalkeeper signing.
Third choice keeper Jak Alnwick injured his shoulder during the 4-0 Capital One Cup thrashing at Tottenham – opening up the possibility of a new recruit for the clash with Sunderland on Sunday.
Newcastle could turn to an experienced campaigner like Mark Schwarzer, third choice at Chelsea.
Toon boss Alan Pardew said: “It is a crucial game at times. Jak is in the firing line at the moment and there is a lot of pressure on him after the last two games.
“He has a shoulder injury and that is something we will have to look at tomorrow. There is no way a 17 year old should be able to go into a game at this level. So we will talk to the Premier League about Jak’s situation.”
