It has been revealed that Nike and adidas are battling for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.
The Daily Mail reported that Nike dropped Manchester United’s attacking midfielder last summer but have been back in touch since Lingard made his recent Premier League starts for United. These led to Roy Hodgson bringing the 22-year-old into the England camp for Tuesday’s game against France.
Adidas are understood to be keen on signing Lingard but arch-rivals Nike have rights from their previous contract to match any footwear deal until the end of the year.
United’s strict image rights regulations on personal sponsorship agreements mean Old Trafford’s £750million kit supplier adidas will be able to utilise Lingard more easily than Nike.
