Peter Crouch Open Talks With Sunderland

England international striker Peter Crouch has arrived in the north-east to discuss a 12-million-pound (19.7-million-dollar) transfer to Sunderland from Portsmouth.

The 28-year-old ex Liverpool striker will hold talks with manager Steve Bruce, but the player has also been linked with a move to Fulham amid suggestions he will head for the London club on Friday.

The 6ft 7in striker scored 16 goals in 49 appearances for his club last season, and also played six times for England, in which he found the back of the net in World Cup qualifier victories over Ukraine and Andorra.

Manager Steve Bruce said that Crouch is a player that he has admired for a very long time, and he is very sure that other managers do exactly the same thing.

Bruce is also hoping predecessor Ricky Sbragia will accept his offer to head up the club’s new-look scouting set-up, and is hoping to have his answer next week.

Bruce also added that he is revamping the scouting at the club he believes that it is a vital role, especially today and he has offered Ricky the head role in that.

Bruce said that Ricky will have a look at it and consider the offer.
