Germany captain Philipp Lahm has targeted Australia star Tim Cahill as the man to stop in tomorrow morning’s group stage opener.
The Bayern Munich man believes the only player that can cause the Germans any trouble is the Everton midfielder and says if they can keep him quiet then they should win comfortably.
“The big threat for Australia is Cahill. In fact, he’s their only threat,” Lahm said.
“We are taking him very seriously and we have been watching videos to see how he scores so many goals.
“It is clear to us Australia will not try to pass the ball through us because their method is to cross the ball into the box at every opportunity.
“That is when Cahill is dangerous. We have seen him score so many headers for his club and for Australia and we must keep our concentration.
“But we have seen how Australia play and we are ready for it.
“There is a confidence in our team that means we think we’ll win any game if we play to our strengths and capabilities.”
