Kevin Mirallas scored the only goal of the game as Everton beat Burnley 1-0 at Goodison Park.
Everton almost went ahead in the 11th minute when Aaron Lennon was brought down by a clumsy David Jones challenge just inside the box, but Ross Barkley’s penalty was too close to Tom Heaton, who guessed correctly and dived to his write.
The home side eventually took the lead when Seamus Coleman crossed from the right and Mirallas took a touch to control, and another to poke past Heaton.
On the stroke of half-time Ashley Barnes lunged in on Coleman to earn himself a second yellow card and bring his side down to 10 men.
In the second half, Burnley won a couple of corners but were unable to bring any meaningful chances about. On the other hand, Everton went close on several occasions but were not able to add to their lead. As the half went on, the fight left Burnley, and Everton claimed a comfortable if narrow victory.
