Everton strolled to a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at Goodison Park as Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku both scored twice.
Villa sat deep from the opening whistle, encouraging Everton to attack them relentlessly. Their short, quick passing opened up space on the wings, and Barkley tapped in a simple rebound as Gerard Deulofeu’s shot was saved by Brad Guzan.
Lukaku doubled the lead when he headed in at close range from a Seamus Coleman cross, and Barkley scored Everton’s third when Guzan failed to claim a ball in the box, allowing the England midfielder to fire into an empty net.
In the second half, Everton continued to control possession and Villa had few chances and less ambition. Lukaku got his second when Barkley’s measured through ball put him through on goal.
Villa continued to struggle to get out of their half or see the ball, and Everton will possibly never have a win as easy as this in 2015/16.
