Louis van Gaal has weathered criticism of his style, his squad selection and his authority and the Red Devils sit third, despite the football not being much better than it was when they finished seventh under David Moyes (and Ryan Giggs) last term.
Everton meanwhile are set for their worst campaign in a while, currently sitting 12th on 41 points and now out of the Europa League. Victory over a team everybody else loves to hate would at least boost morale in the local area.
