Newcastle United never overcame an early red card for Aleksandar Mitrovic as they lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal.
Mitrovic, making his Premier League bow for Newcastle, was shown a straight red for putting his studs down the shin of Francis Coquelin.
It was the moment that changes the game and Newcastle never created a clear chance after that moment whilst having Tim Krul to thank for keeping the scoreline down.
Arsenal, in truth, weren’t that much better and seemed to be lacking a striker with a cutting edge. Olivier Giroud started the match on the bench but Theo Walcott squandered two excellent early chances in the striking role.
The result means that Arsenal climb to seventh in the table for the time being, Newcastle languishing in 15th.
