Swansea City 1-1 Everton - REPORT

Swansea City needed a sloppy penalty conceded by Everton defender Seamus Coleman to earn a 1-1 draw at the Liberty today.

Jonjo Shelvey converted the 69th minute spotkick after Everton had gone ahead before halftime through Aaron Lennon.

Swansea equalled their best-ever Premier League points haul with the result.

Lennon gave the visitors a 41st minute lead with his second goal in Everton colours following his recent winner at QPR and manager Roberto Martinez looked on course for a successful return to his old home.

But Swansea equalised after 69 minutes when Coleman’s inexplicable handball was spotted by referee Michael Oliver and Jonjo Shelvey scored with a firm spot-kick.

Ref Michael Oliver had his hands full keeping tempers in hand as strong challenges from Arouna Koné, Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams threatened to ignite matters.

In the end it was Swansea who came closest to a winner, but Tim Howard was just about equal to Lars Sigurdsson’s dipping late free-kick.
