Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was joyous after his side managed to produce a solid performance to defeat West Ham 3-0 at Anfield on Monday night.
Goals from Yossi Benayoun and David Ngog and an own goal from Hammers keeper Robert Green gave the Reds the three points and Benitez was delighted, especially seeing as the visitors were attempting to get a win to keep themselves out of the drop zone.
“Everything was solid, they were trying to win from the start,” the Spaniard said.
“After we scored the first goal it was easier, we had more chances. We scored the second goal and the third goal killed the game.”
The win put Liverpool five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham but Benitez admitted that the team’s focus would now shift to the midweek clash with Atletico Madrid in the Europa League.
“(We have) another game in a few days and with the journey that we have, it was important to score and to control the game,” he added.
