Cristiano Ronaldo scored, missed a penalty and was sent off as Real Madrid came from behind to beat Almeria 4-2 at the Bernabeu in La Liga.
The results mean there is no change at the top, with Barcelona five points and four goals ahead of second-placed Real, who have a game in hand.
Madrid’s controversial penalty ultimately spared their blushes. With the score tied at 2-2 with eight minutes left, Almeria keeper Diego Alves was harshly adjudged to have brought down the Portuguese.
Alves saved well from Ronaldo but Karim Benzema was allowed to hammer in the rebound, despite clearly being in the penalty area before his team-mate took the spot-kick.
With the visitors committing men forward, Ronaldo scored a breakaway fourth – getting a booking for stripping while celebrating – but the former Manchester United star blotted his copybook with a needless, last-minute red card for lashing out at Juan Ortiz.
