Spanish giants Real Madrid has taken a stand and insisted that Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is NOT one of their targets or part of their plan for the coming season.
Reports in Spain suggested that Real Madrid could turn to Fabregas after baulking at Liverpool’s asking price for Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Real and bitter rivals Barcelona have long been linked with Fabregas but sporting director Miguel Pardeza is adamant the 22-year-old is not on their radar.
Pardeza said to reporters that Fabregas is a great player and there is no doubt about that but he is not a target for Real Madrid at the moment. He added that the club is working on other alternatives.
Pardeza also confirmed they had come up against a brick wall over Alonso but claims that it does not mean their hopes of bringing the Spanish midfielder to the Bernabeu were dead.
Even though Madrid have already spent close to £200million on Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol but it is believed that they are still looking to add a couple more players to the squad.
Two of those new arrivals, Ronaldo and Benzema, were part of the Madrid squad that started pre-season training today.
Real will travel to Ireland on Monday for a training camp that lasts until July 22 and will include a friendly against Shamrock Rovers.
