Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jamie Redknapp has said that the England team lacked the firepower needed to be successful at the World Cup.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “England did not have enough firepower and scored only three goals in four games.
“Wayne Rooney failed to threaten in any game and looked lost again yesterday. Only one of England’s goals in the World Cup was scored by a striker, Jermain Defoe. It’s why we can’t hide behind Frank Lampard’s goal that crossed the line.
“Yes, it is outrageous that it was not given, but England had far too many failings elsewhere.”
