Premier League news are out and it is reported that Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie had said to the media that Arsenal’s new £10million defender Thomas Vermaelen is just the job for Arsenal.
It was also reported that Van Persie is stalling on contract talks because he wants to see what the Gunners do in the transfer market this summer.
But the Dutch hitman has admitted that he is delighted at the capture of Ajax’s Belgian ace Vermaelen, 23, who can play as a centre-back or left-back.
Arsenal’s Ivory Coast centre-back Kolo Toure, 28, was reported saying that he is ready to fight for a place with Vermaelen.
And boss Arsene Wenger is also set to welcome back Swiss captain Philippe Senderos, who was on loan at AC Milan for most of last season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s sponsors Emirates say they are happy with their deal as long as the Gunners finish in the Premier League’s top 10.
The airline president Tim Clarke said: “We didn’t expect them to win the Champions League or the Premiership. So long as they finish in the top half.”
