Reginaldo and Gaetano D’Agostino scored either side of half-time to give Siena a 2-1 advantage in their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Napoli at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Reginaldo’s opener came three minutes before the interval and punished a Partenopei outfit who wasted several opportunities to take the lead themselves in the first period.
Edinson Cavani and Goran Pandev had opportunities saved by home goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo before Reginaldo collected an excellent assist from Daniele Mannini, cleverly evaded the outrushing Napoli stopper Morgan De Sanctis and tapped home the deadlock breaker.
Cavani and strike partner Ezequiel Lavezzi continued to search for a way in with further efforts, while Mannini tested De Sanctis twice in succession before the Tuscan side doubled their advantage on 65 minutes.
Andrea Rossi capped a slick counter amidst heavy Napoli pressure by crossing low for D’Agostino to tap home and send the Siena fans into raptures, perhaps sensing their side may have one foot in the final.
