Relegated Premier League side Middlesbrough have agreed a fee of around £12million for England winger Stewart Downing with Aston Villa.
It is has been reported that the two clubs have struck a deal which could see the 24-year-old midfielder leave his home-town club for the midlands.
The talented left sided winger is currently recovering from foot surgery which is likely to sideline him until October at the earliest.
The player be will celebrating his 25th birthday next week, and has been at the centre of intense transfer speculation for much of the summer despite his injury.

Downing is arguably the club’s most sale-able player in the wake of a relegation which will drastically reduce their revenue.
