Sven Goran Eriksson has been asked if he wants to boss his home country of Sweden.
Eriksson has been director of football at League Two club Notts County since July, and has a five-year contract worth £40,000 a week.
However it is believed that the Swedish FA has sounded the former England boss out after national coach Lars Lagerback stepped down last week.
Swedish FA president Lars-Ake Lagrell told reporters that he is a good friend of Sven Goran Eriksson and knows how good a manager he is.
It is also understood that the Swedish FA will ask Notts County for permission to hold in-depth discussions with Eriksson before reaching any agreement.
The 61-year-old is thought to be keen on seeing the Notts County project through to the end but it is also believed that he could be tempted by Sweden if he was allowed to combine both jobs.
