Van Bommel Out For A Month With Broken Toe

Bayern Munich’s Dutch international midfielder and captain Mark van Bommel ruled out for a month after suffering a broken toe during the draw at Hoffenheim in their opening Bundesliga match.

Van Bommel will now undergo surgery Monday and the club is desperate to go one better than last season’s runners-up finish.

The 32-year-old midfielder had to leave the field with ten minutes left before the end of Saturday’s game which saw the Bavarians fortunate to escape with a point and he was left to rue his ill fortune.

Van Bommel now joins Argentine defender Martin Demichelis (ankle) and Italian striker Luca Toni (Achilles tendon) on the sidelines while Frenchman Franck Ribery is at least back in training following his problems with first blisters, then tendonitis.
