Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has declared that it is vital that his club shows they are comfortable in the Champions League.
The Dutch tactician guided the Red Devils back to Europe’s elite club competition with a fourth-placed Premier League finish last season and is now interested to see if they can kick on and be competitive.
United travel to Holland to take on Dutch Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night and van Gaal is eager to see an accomplished showing by his team who have started the domestic season in decent form with three wins and a draw from five outings.
“We have to show on the pitch if we are able to win matches on the highest level,” said van Gaal.
“That’s also a challenge for us now. Last year we were fourth in the Premier League.
“We qualified ourselves this year and that was our aim so now we have to show if we are able to play at that level and that I don’t know, neither. I have to wait and see.
“I think the Champions League is a higher podium than the Premier League but maybe it’s not like that.”
