Reports are out claiming that Espanyol midfielder Víctor Sanchez apologised to home fans after their 6-0 humiliation by Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo struck five as Real Madrid thrashed Espanyol 6-0 yesterday.
Sanchez said: “I can only say sorry to the fans who paid to get in because we weren’t up to it. Last year we played a good match but this year we didn’t.
“The blame lies with the 14 players who played. We didn’t do ourselves justice. We were flat, they found it too easy to get at our defence, we didn’t read the game…”
On Ronaldo, he added: “A player of his stature never arrives in bad form. In 19 minutes he scored three and the game ended there.”
