Reports are out claiming that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could play Calum Chambers in midfield to cover crocked teammate Francis Coquelin.
The French defensive midfielder is expected to miss “the next few months” and maybe more after being injured in a tackle with Claudio Yacob at West Brom on Saturday.
Arsenal are now awaiting the result of scans that will determine the length of time he is out for.
Wenger said: “I’m a bit cautious as we have had so many bad surprises on the scans that I do not want to speculate more than that but the team for the next few months will be without Coquelin.
“We have players who play in this position like Flamini. We have other players who can play in this position, like Chambers, because he has been educated as a central midfielder.
“Sometimes this is a good opportunity for other players to turn up and show they can do the job.”
